Aquavent FAQ
Aquavent™ delivers the usual benefits of a standard solar pool cover plus more. What makes Aquavent™ unique is that it allows your pool to ‘breathe’, creating healthier and more comfortable swimming conditions while prolonging the life of your pool. Traditionally, pool covers have been marketed as saving on pool chemicals by preventing them from escaping your pool. The reality is that pool blankets that ‘lock’ chemicals in, inevitably cause many pools to be over-chlorinated. Over chlorination can cause expensive damage to fibreglass, concrete and liner pools as well as expensive pool equipment voiding their warranty. Over-chlorination can also cause irreversible damage to clothes, pool toys and pool equipment.
No. The secret lies in the patented, purpose engineered design of Aquavent™. The offset ‘micro-valves’ are strategically placed in the smaller, sloped breather cells. Unlike a simple hole placed in a pool blanket, the two-stage micro-valves allow vapours to escape but do not allow significant water evaporation. The sloped cell ensures that any water that may enter the cell will not become trapped and be allowed to simply flow out. The larger Aquavent™ flotation cells ensure the smaller breather cells sit just above the water line, encouraging vapours to escape from the surface of the water while discouraging water.
There are three main reasons Aquavent™ is a proven performer when it comes to heating pools. 1) The patented ‘heating cell’ is considerably larger and deeper than traditional, cell-based solar pool covers. The larger cell captures and retains more heat from the sun and the already heated pool water. 2) The second distinctive feature of Aquavent™ is it’s 600um (micron) weight, making it a strong pool blanket. 3) The smaller ‘breather’ cells are designed to allow gases to escape while simultaneously capturing heat from the sun.
Aquavent™ blankets are available in a quality 600um. Experience shows that 600um is the ideal weight for solar pool covers, allowing for optimum heat retention, and evaporation prevention.
Aquavent is 100% Australian made in Sydney. This industry-leading technology has been designed, developed and engineered in Australia. Even the raw materials used for Aquavent have been sourced from an Australian resin company based in Melbourne.
Aquavent™ is currently available in blue with other colours becoming available in line with demand.
Aquavent blankets are covered for a total of 12 years. A 3 year full replacement warranty + 9 year pro rata warranty.
A Pro Rata Warranty means your blanket is covered against manufacturers defects for a total of 12 years. Should your blanket malfunction due to manufacturing faults you will receive a full replacement for the first three years. Any malfunctions due to manufacturing faults from years 4 to 12 during the life of your blanket will mean you are covered for a percentage of a replacement blanket based on the time you did NOT receive from your Aquavent blanket.
Most modern pools are set up to automatically dose sanitation chemicals. Day after day chemicals are administered to a covered pool, meaning chemicals can reach dangerous, unhealthy, warranty-voiding levels. By releasing excess chlorine and other gases, Aquavent™ allows your pool to breathe and safely regulate it’s chemical levels. When it’s time to pull your blanket back and enjoy your pool it will be ready for swimming and won’t require excess chemicals to neutralise any imbalances. Testing from accredited labs including Chem Centre WA (www.chemcentre.wa.gov.au) shows that during a 7-day period, chlorine in covered pool water will rise up to 8 times higher than ‘safe levels’. Pools covered for longer periods are vulnerable to extremely high chemical levels, risking expensive, permanent damage and unhealthy swimming conditions.
Chemicals are required to sanitise pools whether they be chlorine or salt. When over-chlorination inevitably takes place additional chemicals are required to bring levels back into balance The micro-vents allow the continuous, controlled escape of excess gases from sanitation chemicals, dramatically reducing the need for additional, expensive balancing chemicals.
In the past, the Swimming Pool and Spa Association have given this advice to pool owners in response to concerns and major damage occurring to pool interiors through over-chlorination and chemical damage. Trimming a pool blanket will allow the escape of chemicals but at the cost of the blankets performance. Trimming a pool blanket smaller than the pool creates two significant issues; 1) Your blanket will fit incorrectly on the pool and allow gases to escape uncontrolled and unevenly, allowing either too much or too little to escape. 2) Significant areas of water will become exposed, enabling water evaporation and debris to enter the pool, two major reasons to purchase a pool blanket in the first place!
Drilling holes in your pool cover creates many of the same issues as trimming your pool cover short at the edges (see Question 11). It will also void your warranty in most cases. Aquavent is the worlds first pool cover designed and engineered to let your pool ‘breathe’ and regulate the safe release of chemical gases. Let Aquavent technology take away the worry of a standard pool cover.
Aquavent pool blankets are purpose engineered to self-drain any water, salt or chemicals that may enter the micro-valves. The larger Aquavent flotation cells ensure the smaller breather cells sit just above the water line, encouraging vapours to escape from the surface of the water while discouraging water from entering the cell. The sloped cell ensures that any water that may enter the cell will simply flow out and not become trapped (Figure 3). Regular, correct maintenance of your Aquavent Pool Cover will clear blockages that may occur.
The maintenance of the Aqua Vent is no different to other solar pool covers on the market and includes; Hosing down your blanket to remove debris, covering your blanket while being stored on its roller to protect from uneven sun exposure. See the Aquavent Maintenance Guide for complete detailed instructions.
Yes. Aquavent is installed, stored and maintained the same as any other solar pool cover.
Most Aquavent blankets will fit onto an existing pool roller. However, the Aquavent heating cells are slightly larger and deeper than some traditional blankets to allow for better heat retention. This may mean your blanket will be slightly larger when stored on its roller and should be taken into consideration at the time of purchase
It is not recommended that any solar blanket be left on a pool permanently. Aquavent is no different in this respect and should be removed for maintenance as per the Aquavent Maintenance Guide.
Aquavent pool covers considerably lower the risk of damaging the interior surface of fibreglass, concrete and liner pools and their equipment through over-dosing chemicals. However, we make no claims or guarantees that pool damage will not occur through a myriad or pool ownership and maintenance variables.
Yes. Aquavent pool covers are suitable for fibreglass, concrete and liner pools and spas.
Aquavent pool covers are made from a proprietary formula Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). Aquavent features UV stabilisers enabling us to offer a market leading 12 year warranty (3 Year full replacement + 9 year pro rata).
Aquavent is the only ‘breathable’ pool blanket on the market. It has been purpose designed, engineered and developed over a three year period and is more complex to produce than traditional solar pool blankets. However, the health and maintenance benefits far outweigh its slightly more expensive price tag.
